Just after the War.
Voldemort is dead. Gone. Just another page in Hogwarts, A History. His reign of terror is over, but a price had to be paid for the triumph. Numerous died, including kids, causing the Wizarding World to try and figure what exactly they were fighting for that innocent children had to sacrifice themselves. The war didn’t take long at all, a stroke of lightning and everything changed. When Voldemort (just for the record, his name is spoken more freely) died, many Death Eaters actually surrendered, few, like Bellatrix LeStrange, however, had rather died beside their lord than be tried and imprisoned.
So these Death Eaters were punished, weren’t they? Oh yes, the one’s whom continued to pledge full loyalty (which was surprisingly very few), were sentenced to Azkaban, and even death. Everyone found their scapegoats to blame the war on.
But not everyone whom died were Death Eaters, many were members of the Order and the D.A., including the fated Harry Potter. The horocruxes were all found, and after he had his vengeance on Severus Snape, killed the ultimate evil.
But he was not alone, but the newspapers didn’t really cover that. Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, Ginny Weasley, Luna Lovegood, and Draco Malfoy (yes, I’m serious) along with other D.A. members were at this final battle.
Why Draco, you ask? Easy. Fear. As we all know, Draco failed to kill Albus Dumbledore, but, seeing as Snape had an unbreakable vow, had to do all in his power to protect Draco, even from the wrath of his Lord, lest Snape would suffer the same fate as the Malfoy son. Snape therefore dumped the then seventeen-year-old on his mother’s steps, fleeing the scene. Voldemort found out what Snape had done, but before he could act and kill all the Malfoy’s for their insolence, Narcissa did either the bravest or most cowardly thing a Mother could do. She promised the Ministry information in order for protection for her and her son. Voldemort was outraged. Traitors the Malfoys became. As soon as the Dementors left Azkaban to help the dark side, the Dark Lord killed Lucius Malfoy while he was still lying in his cell. Hence Draco’s actions to unite with the cause.
But, it is not to be said that Malfoy and the Trio got along all fine and dandy. Arguments and bickering was common, considering Draco’s reluctance to help his enemy despite the fact that they were for the same goal. After a while, though, everyone thankfully matured and Draco began to trickle out information whenever it was a benefit to him. In the end, every man was needed; whoever recruited on both sides was at the final battle.
The summer sure was hectic; hardly a soul actually went back to school that year and instead mourned the deaths and recovered from injuries. Harry was pinned up every where as the hero, once again, leaving all else in the background. But, perhaps that isn’t too much of a bad thing, people were able to begin their lives, find work, and keep stable relationships. It was as if the World started all over, everyone picking up the few pieces of their past life to live in this new calm.
It is not safe to say, however, that it will always be happy and jovial with butterflies and rainbows. Even though there is no great evil or even Death Eaters, the old tried and true sins are apparent. Who is willing to claw over others to reach the top? Will envy, pride, or lust get in the way of a seemingly happy future? Will old conflicts rise to the occasion? Who will reign supreme in this new world?
Coming up on the second anniversary of Voldemort’s death, anything can happen.
